Why Vietnam

100 Million Consumers Moving Up Fast

Vietnam’s middle class crossed 20 million people in 2025 and is growing at 8 to 10 million per decade. Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi’s urban consumers are buying imported products at a rate that surprises first-time visitors. The aspiration for international brands is real and rising.

Vietnam has no import duty on most ASEAN-origin products and competitive MFN rates for food. The regulatory environment is manageable, less complex than China, more accessible than Indonesia. It is the right market for brands building their ASEAN footprint step by step.

Distribution Channels

How International Brands Reach Vietnamese Consumers

Winmart / Co.opmart

Mass Market Supermarket

Winmart (Masan Group, 3,000+ locations) and Co.opmart (Co.opXtra, 200+ supermarkets). The two dominant domestic supermarket chains. Volume channels for brands with competitive pricing and Vietnamese-language packaging.

Aeon Vietnam / Lotte Mart

Premium Import Retail

Japanese (Aeon) and Korean (Lotte) hypermarkets with strong imported food sections. 30+ Aeon Vietnam locations and 15+ Lotte Mart outlets. Best initial channel for premium imported food, health, and beauty brands entering Ho Chi Minh City.

Shopee VN / Lazada VN / TikTok Shop VN

E-commerce: Always an Option

Vietnam’s e-commerce is growing 20%+ per year. Shopee dominates, Lazada is second, TikTok Shop is the fastest-growing. E-commerce is always an option in Vietnam, often the first channel to generate revenue before retail listing is finalized. We launch e-commerce stores in Vietnamese in parallel with retail pitch.

TikTok Vietnam / Facebook

Social Commerce

Vietnam is TikTok’s most engaged market per capita in Southeast Asia. Facebook remains strong for community-driven product discovery. Live streaming and KOL video content directly drive purchase on both platforms. Social media is not brand building, it is direct sales here.

Circle K / GS25 Vietnam

Convenience Retail

Circle K (600+ stores) and GS25 (500+ Korean-brand stores) are expanding fast in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Key channel for imported snacks, beverages, health drinks, and beauty. Urban youth consumer, impulse purchase format.

Hotel / F&B / Food Service

B2B Hospitality

Vietnam’s booming tourism sector (18M international visitors in 2025) drives strong hotel and restaurant demand for premium imported ingredients. Da Nang and Hoi An resort supply chains, Ho Chi Minh City’s international restaurant scene. B2B food service runs parallel to retail entry.

Our Process

How We Launch Your Brand in Vietnam

1

Import Compliance + Label

All food imported into Vietnam requires Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) import license and Vietnamese-language label (nhãn phụ). We map your product’s registration requirements and connect you with local importers who hold the right licenses for your category.

2

HCMC-First Strategy

We start with Ho Chi Minh City, where imported consumer demand is strongest, then expand to Hanoi (different consumer profile, different distributor relationships). A national Vietnam distributor who promises full coverage often delivers HCMC only. We are honest about this from day one.

3

E-commerce + Retail in Parallel

We launch Shopee Vietnam and TikTok Shop Vietnam stores immediately. E-commerce is always an option in Vietnam and typically produces first revenue while Aeon or Lotte Mart listing is being negotiated. Revenue from e-commerce is also proof to retail buyers that Vietnamese consumers want your product.

4

Vietnamese Social Media + KOL

Vietnamese consumers research on TikTok Vietnam and Facebook groups before buying. A local TikTok content creator partnership (KOL) generating Vietnamese-language reviews pulls consumers to your Shopee store and to the Aeon shelf. We connect you with the right Vietnamese content creators for your category.

Brand Materials

Your Website, Brochure, and Social Presence Open Doors Here

Vietnamese distributors and retail buyers expect to see a professional website and an English (or Vietnamese) product brochure before agreeing to meet. A strong social media presence, especially on Facebook and TikTok Vietnam, tells them consumer marketing support will come with the brand. Without it, they see risk.

We review your brand materials before introductions and produce what’s missing. A Vietnamese-language product PDF, a TikTok intro video, and updated packaging copy with nhãn phụ, we handle all of it.

  • English + Vietnamese product brochure (PDF)
  • TikTok Vietnam and Facebook page with Vietnamese content
  • Vietnamese nhãn phụ (secondary label) design and compliance
  • Shopee Vietnam and TikTok Shop product listing in Vietnamese

What Our Clients Say

Vietnam Distribution Results

“We launched on Shopee Vietnam and TikTok Shop in month 1 while the Aeon listing was being negotiated. By month 4 our Shopee store was doing USD 12K/month. The Aeon buyer saw our TikTok sales and approved the listing without pushing on margin. The e-commerce data was our best sales argument.”

Vietnam market entry 2025

“Asia Pro’s Vietnam team knew which distributors actually had Winmart relationships and which ones were overpromising. They saved us from signing with the wrong partner, which was exactly the mistake we made in Thailand the year before. The HCMC-first advice was right.”

FAQ

Common Questions About Vietnam Distribution

What import documentation is needed to sell food in Vietnam? +

Vietnam requires an import permit (giấy phép nhập khẩu) for most food categories, product declaration or full registration depending on category, and a Vietnamese-language secondary label (nhãn phụ) on all packaged food. Health supplements and functional foods require additional Ministry of Health approval. Our distributor partners hold the right import licenses and manage product registration and Vietnamese labeling as standard.

What are import duties for food into Vietnam? +

ASEAN-origin food products: 0% under AFTA. Australia and NZ food: 0 to 5% under AANZFTA. EU products: preferential rates under EVFTA (most categories 0 to 15%, phased reduction). US products: MFN rates (5 to 30% for food). Vietnam VAT on food: 5 to 10%. Our team calculates the full landed cost for your product before you commit to Vietnam pricing.

Is HCMC or Hanoi the better first market? +

Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) for almost all import food brands. HCMC’s consumer is more open to international brands, the premium retail infrastructure is more developed (Aeon, Lotte Mart, specialty importers), and the food service scene is more international. Hanoi is more conservative, brand and price sensitivity differ. We always recommend HCMC first with a clear plan for Hanoi expansion once HCMC velocity is proven.

How important is TikTok for Vietnam distribution? +

Very important. Vietnam is TikTok’s most engaged market per capita in Southeast Asia. TikTok Shop Vietnam is a significant sales channel, consumer goods brands report 30 to 60% of their Vietnam e-commerce revenue coming from TikTok Shop. Beyond sales, TikTok review content from local creators is how Vietnamese consumers discover and validate imported products. We connect you with Vietnamese KOL creators in your product category and manage the TikTok Shop store setup.
