Why It Matters

Asian Consumers Read Packaging Differently

A European or American package rarely works without adaptation in Asia. Chinese consumers scan QR codes, read Chinese-character brand names, and trust premium cues that differ from Western convention. Vietnamese consumers need a compliant nhãn phụ label. Thai retailers require Thai-language regulatory text. Malaysian shelves need JAKIM halal certification displayed correctly.

Beyond compliance, packaging is your first salesperson. On Tmall, Shopee, and TikTok Shop, the product thumbnail is what converts — or doesn’t. We design packaging that works on the physical shelf and converts in the e-commerce thumbnail.

Our Process

From Brief to Print-Ready in 4 Steps

1

Market and Channel Audit

We identify your target markets, retail channels, and e-commerce platforms. We then map compliance requirements per market (China SAMR, Vietnam MoIT, Malaysia JAKIM, Indonesia MUI/BPOM) and define what the packaging must communicate in each language.

2

Concept and Direction

We present 2 to 3 design directions adapted to Asian market expectations. Each direction includes a Chinese brand name option (if needed), color palette rationale, and e-commerce thumbnail preview. You choose the direction and we refine.

3

Local Language Copy and Compliance

Our copywriters produce all packaging text in the target language: Mandarin, Vietnamese, Thai, Bahasa Malaysia, or Bahasa Indonesia. All regulatory text meets current compliance standards for each market. We check before you print.

4

Print-Ready Files + E-commerce Assets

We deliver print-ready AI/PDF files for packaging production plus all e-commerce image assets (Tmall A+, Shopee listing images, TikTok product images). You get one complete package — distributor brochure, packaging files, and platform listing visuals — ready to deploy.

What Our Clients Say

Packaging That Opens Distributor Doors

“Our original French packaging was rejected by three Chinese distributors before we came to Asia Pro. They redesigned the label with a Chinese brand name and Mandarin copy. The next distributor meeting resulted in a contract. Same product, different packaging, different outcome.”

French premium olive oil brand

China packaging adaptation

“Asia Pro produced our Vietnamese nhãn phụ, our Shopee product listing images, and our TikTok thumbnail all in one project. The Shopee listing images alone increased our conversion rate by 40% compared to our original photos.”

FAQ

Common Questions About Packaging for Asia

Do I need a Chinese brand name to sell in China? +

Not legally required, but practically essential. Chinese consumers struggle to remember or pronounce Latin-script brand names. A well-chosen Chinese brand name (品牌命名) that phonetically resembles your original name and carries positive meaning in Chinese significantly increases brand recall and consumer trust. We create and test Chinese brand name options as part of our China packaging brief.

What is a Vietnamese nhãn phụ and who designs it? +

A nhãn phụ is a Vietnamese-language secondary label affixed over or alongside the original packaging. Vietnam law requires it for all imported packaged food and consumer goods. It must contain: product name in Vietnamese, ingredients, nutritional information, net weight, importer name and address, country of origin, and expiry date in Vietnamese date format. We design compliant nhãn phụ artwork ready for sticker production.

How is e-commerce packaging design different from retail? +

Retail packaging is designed to be read at arm’s length in good lighting. E-commerce thumbnails are 200×200 pixels on a mobile screen. The brand cue, product name, and key benefit must be legible at thumbnail size. We design retail-first packaging with a thumbnail optimization layer — checking that every critical element is visible when the image is compressed to its smallest display size on Shopee, Tmall, or TikTok Shop.

Can you design for multiple Asian markets at once? +

Yes — and this is our specialty. We design a master packaging template with shared visual identity and brand elements, then produce per-market label variants (Mandarin for China, Vietnamese nhãn phụ, Thai text, Bahasa Indonesia with MUI halal placement, Bahasa Malaysia with JAKIM). This approach reduces total cost compared to commissioning separate designers per market and ensures visual consistency across your entire Asia range.
