From a distribution specialist who talks to Vietnamese partners every week I am Delissa expert of the Vietnam market at Asia pro

If you want to work with serious distributors in Vietnam, stop thinking only about Shopee or supermarket buyers. Most good distributors already live on three platforms: Facebook, TikTok, and Zalo. These are not extra marketing channels. They are where Vietnamese distributors check demand, find new brands, talk to each other, and decide who is worth a meeting.
We see this every day at Asia Pro Distribution. Brands that understand these three platforms get faster replies and better partners. Brands that ignore them often wait months for answers.
What is Asia Pro Distribution
Asia Pro Distribution is a practical agency that helps international brands find real distributors and retailers in Asia. We work mainly in Vietnam, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. We do not sell lists. We check your product, match you with 3 to 5 verified partners in the right category, open the conversation in local language, and stay involved until the first orders move. We have placed more than 300 brands. Our team works on the ground with local relationships. We only take brands that are export-ready and serious about quality.
Overview from the distributor side
Vietnamese distributors are busy people. They manage stock, cash flow, modern trade (Co.op, WinMart, etc.), traditional trade, and now e-commerce. They get dozens of brand emails every week. Most emails look the same: nice photos, English catalogue, no local proof.
So they look for signals on social media. They ask simple questions:
- Do Vietnamese people already talk about this product?
- Does the packaging look good in real photos?
- Is there demand I can see with my own eyes?
- Can I reach the brand quickly if I have a question?
Facebook, TikTok and Zalo answer those questions faster than any brochure.
The 3 platforms that matter

1. Facebook Facebook is still the biggest. Almost every internet user in Vietnam is on it. Distributors use Facebook groups heavily. There are groups for importers, food wholesalers, beauty buyers, pharmacy chains, and regional traders. Many distributors post “looking for new brands” or share photos of products that sell well. Facebook pages and Marketplace also show real sales activity. If your brand has a Vietnamese Facebook page with clear photos, customer comments, and some local posts, distributors notice. Cold brands with only English content get skipped. Facebook is where many first contacts still start.
2. TikTok TikTok (and TikTok Shop) shows what people actually buy right now. Distributors watch live streams, trending sounds, and product reviews. They see which snacks get ordered in the first five minutes of a live, which skincare sells out, which packaging looks good on camera. TikTok is the fastest way to check real consumer demand. Some distributors even find new brands by watching successful sellers and then contacting the factory or brand behind the product. If your product already has Vietnamese user videos or a small TikTok Shop presence, the conversation with distributors becomes much easier. No presence means more risk for them.
3. Zalo Zalo is Vietnam’s own app. It is like WhatsApp plus more. Almost every business person uses it daily. Once a distributor is interested, they want to talk on Zalo, not email. Zalo Official Accounts are used for promotions and updates. Personal Zalo chats close deals. Many distributors prefer Zalo because it feels local, fast, and private. If you do not have a Zalo presence or a local person who can answer on Zalo, deals slow down. Brands that reply quickly on Zalo build trust faster.
Comparison table
| Platform | Main use for distributors | Why it matters for brands | What good brands do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Groups, pages, discovery, first contact | Highest reach, B2B groups active | Vietnamese page, local photos, group activity | |
| TikTok | Demand check, live sales, trend watching | Shows real buying behaviour fast | User videos, clear packaging, TikTok Shop |
| Zalo | Daily talk, closing deals, support | Preferred business chat tool | Local contact, fast replies, Official Account |
Fictive examples from real patterns we see
Example 1 ; Cosmetics A Korean skincare brand had clean packaging and good quality. They opened a simple Vietnamese Facebook page and posted real customer photos twice a week. They also had a few honest TikTok videos from Vietnamese users. A Ho Chi Minh City distributor who sells to pharmacies and beauty shops saw the posts in a Facebook group and checked the TikTok comments. He messaged the brand on Zalo the same day. Within six weeks they signed a distribution agreement for the South. The packaging looked premium in the videos and the local comments reduced his risk.
Example 2 – Snack brand An Australian healthy snack company had almost no Vietnam presence. Their first emails got no reply. Then they started a small TikTok Shop with Vietnamese subtitles and ran three live sessions. A distributor in Hanoi who supplies convenience stores watched one live and saw 200 orders in one hour. He contacted them through a Facebook group, moved the talk to Zalo, asked for samples, and placed a first container order two months later. The live sales numbers convinced him more than any catalogue.
Practical advice for brands
Do not try to be perfect on all three at once. Start with what you can control:
- Make a clean Vietnamese Facebook page with product photos that look good on phone screens.
- Encourage or create a few real TikTok videos showing the product in Vietnamese daily life.
- Have someone who can answer on Zalo within a few hours.
Distributors care about speed and proof. They prefer a brand that already has some local conversation over a brand that only sends English PDFs.
If you are ready to enter Vietnam and want introductions to distributors who already understand these platforms, that is exactly what we do at Asia Pro Distribution. We match the right product with the right partner and help open the first real conversation.

Delissa, this is one of the most useful “do this first” articles we have read on Vietnam.
CapeHarvest Foods is a South African brand (biltong, rooibos snacks, dried fruit, premium pantry). We were preparing a Shopee-focused pitch. You made it clear that Facebook groups, TikTok demand signals and Zalo response speed are how distributors decide whether to answer at all.
The Korean skincare and Australian snack examples are close to our situation: unknown origin, need visible local proof.
Questions we have:
For food, what should a first Vietnamese Facebook page contain — product photos in local settings, recipes, or importer/wholesale group activity?
On TikTok, is a small TikTok Shop with Vietnamese subtitles and 3–4 lives enough to create the “200 orders in an hour” type of signal, or do we need user-generated videos first?
Zalo: do we need an Official Account immediately, or is a local phone number + fast replies enough at the introduction stage?
How “Vietnamese” must the content be on day one — full localization, or is English + Vietnamese captions acceptable while we test?
